Reading Dispute

Reading Mail Centre Picket Line

Reading's Postal Workers walked out in April 2000 over payment rates for delivering Local Election Poll Cards and dissatisfaction at the application of the Conduct Code. Royal Mail depots in Caversham Road and Loverock Road walked out. Dave Warren, Branch Secretary said that they walked out because they believe overtime is payable for delivering Poll Cards. But the Post Office said that Poll Cards were always designated as second class delivery items and overtime was not relevant. The dispute was resolved on 5th April 2000 to the satisfaction of the Union membership.
